Helping Your Worried Child: Cognitive Behavioral Treatment of Childhood Anxiety

The workshop will provide participants with a clear understanding of the cognitive-behavioral treatment of childhood anxiety disorders. The three parts of anxiety will be discussed: physiological (body), cognitive (thoughts), and behavioral, and the treatment of each component will be outlined. Participants will learn specific techniques, including relaxation strategies, positive self-talk, conquer worry techniques, and how to address the typical avoidance behavior seen in children with anxiety. In addition, parental response to a child's anxiety will also be discussed.

Bonnie Zucker, PsyD

Dr. Zucker is a licensed psychologist with a background and expertise in psychotherapy with children, adolescent, and adults. She received her doctoral degree from Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago and her Master's degree in Applied Psychology from the University of Baltimore. Dr. Zucker specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders in children and adults and utilizes a cognitive-behavioral (CBT) approach.  She conducts psychotherapy at Alvord, Baker, & Associates (Rockville location) and at the National Center for the Treatment of Phobias, Anxiety and Depression in Washington, DC. Dr. Zucker was named one of Washingtonian Magazine's Top Therapists in the fields of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, OCD, Phobias, Troubled Child, and Troubled Adolescent in 2009. In addition to being active in conducting trainings on CBT for anxiety, Dr. Zucker wrote Anxiety-Free Kids: An Interactive Guide for Parents and Children, a self-help book for children with anxiety disorders and their parents, and Take Control of OCD: The Ultimate Guide for Kids with OCD, a self- help book for children and teens with OCD, ages 10-16. In addition, she co-authored Resilience Builder Program for Children & Adolescents: Enhancing Social Competence & Self-Regulation (A Cognitive-Behavioral Group Approach) and Relaxation & Self-Regulation Techniques for Children & Teens: Mastering the Mind-Body Connection (Audio CD).

Refund Policy:

If Alvord,Baker & Associates, LLC and The Weinfeld Education Group LLC decide to cancel the class, all registrants will receive a full refund. Through Monday, November 3, 2011, registrants who need to cancel for any reason will receive a refund of 90% of their registration fee. Cancellation requests must be received no later than November 3rd by phone 301-593-6554 x14 or by email: malvord@alvordbaker.com. Be sure to include your name, address and contact information as provided in your registration information. No refunds will be issued for any reason after November 3, 2011.
